“I write of South Africa, where my heart sometimes resides, and my mind often drifts back to, across the distance of lands and oceans. An Africa that always beats with a strong heart of different people, languages and cultures, who irrefutably call this land their home.”
Some laguid Saturdays, when I get the rare opportunity, I spend an hour or two surfing for internet pictures reminding me of the past in South Africa.
This was home for much of my life; and here is a portrait of South Africa, the way it was then and now, which is pretty much what it says on the tin.
Pictures of nature, the raw beauty, the vastness and the scenery, telling you that you can simply be ‘no where else in this world.’ I go back. I indulge. A God made place, no other words can express it. But harsh and unpredictable!
Feeling deeply is Indulging. Wanting to show this place to the rest of the world and share what I loved has become an obsession.
That high blue sky and the vastness impossible to put into words……
The smell of the dirt road in the air; and where I first attended school-Orange Free State. (Thanks to Tessa Joughin)….
Railway lines through Gumtree and tall blue gum trees….
And when it rains, it pours……
And pours……
African women sway…..
Drakensberg-South Africa……
The beautiful Jacarandas- must be Springtime in Pretoria……
And the king really lives there…..
Maluti mountains…….
Basotho women in the Drakensberg, top of Sani Pass…….
Sani Pass, Drakenberg…….
Sunrise over the Indian Ocean………..
Hope you have enjoyed a peek at my indulgence in South Africa.
Somtimes I think, there must be a little of me still there, floating on the breeze that rustles tall grasses and blows the wispy clouds along.
Sometimes I am there.
Great photos Liz, and the saying goes that once you live in Africa, it never leaves you, and that’s very true.
